No one can put a value on obtaining clarity, peace of mind, reconnecting with yourself or becoming the true you. It is essential for you to take that first step, then the next, and the next in order to work through the issues that have been holding you back.
We understand that for many people, affordability is an important consideration. Because of this, we aim to keep our rates as low as possible and offer rebates through Medicare and Private Health.
Hedland Psychologists do not bulk bill.
A. Fees
Your initial appointment will incorporate intake forms, psychometrics and a comprehensive assessment. This will enable us to work together to assess your needs, set goals and work out the best way to manage and improve your situation. Fees can be paid via cash, visa or mastercard. If applicable, we can also process your Medicare rebate.
You do not need a referral (unless you are attending under the Medicare scheme).
Appointments are 50 minutes in duration.
An individual standard fee is $295.00 a Medicare rebate is $92.90 = out of pocket expense $202.10 due at the time of the appointment.
Several of the psychologists are also registered with numerous private health care funds - please check out your policy to see if you are covered for psychology.
Workers compensation, MVA, third party EAP and commercial clients is billable at the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc recommendation fee which as at July 2023 reflects $300.00 unless by prior agreement.
Hedland Psychologists also has commerical agreements in place with:
- FMG employees and family members, residing under the same roof, are entitled to 6 FREE counselling sessions every 12 months.
- SJAWA employees, volunteers and family members, residing under the same roof, are entitled to 6 FREE sessions every 12 months.
- Telethon employees, volunteers and family members, residing under the same roof, are entitled to 6 FREE sessions every 12 months.
- Hicks Civil & Mining employees and family members residing under the same roof, are entitled to 6 FREE sessions every 12 months.
- WAPOL employees
- Hedland Women's Refuge employees are entitled to 6 FREE counselling sessins every 12 months
- Town of Port Hedland employees family members residing under the same roof are entitled to 3 FREE counselling sessions followed by a review
- Pilbara Minerals employees and family members ,residing under the same roof, are entitled to 6 FREE counselling sessions every 12 months.
B. Medicare Rebates
Hedland Psychologists are registered with Medicare to provide evidence-based treatments. Medicare rebates are available for up to 10 sessions per calendar year (Gov review date 01.01.23).
The current (July 2023) Medicare rebate for our services is $92.90. We will process the rebate for you online.
To be eligible for the rebate, you will need to make an appointment with a General Practitioner (GP) and obtain both a Referral Letter and a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). It is an idea to advise the receptionist that you require a Referral Letter and a MHCP as you may need a longer appointment for the completion of the MHCP by the GP.
The following issues are covered by a Medicare rebate : alcohol use disorder, anxiety disorder, adjustment disorder, attention deficit disorder, bereavement disorder, bipolar disorder, conduct disorder, co-occurring anxiety and depression, depression, drug use disorders, eating disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, phobic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, sexual disorders & sleep problems.
C. Skype Counselling Sessions with Medicare Rebates
NEW: From 1st November 2017 Medicare Rebates are available for telehealth counselling sessions, if you live in a remote area (the Pilbara is classified as remote) and at least 15km by road from the psychologist. One sessions within the first 4 have to be face-face and 3 of the 10 have to be face-face.

D. Private Health Insurance Rebates
All of our Psychologists are also registered with the Private Health Funds. Many of these funds cover Psychology in their "extra". Each fund is different and can change over time, so it is best if you check with your fund about your entitlements for a rebate and the amounts.
Please note that it is not legally possible for a client to claim both a Medicare rebate and a Private Health Insurance rebate for the same session. You will need to choose which you prefer.
E. Cancellation Policy
24 hr notice of cancellation may result in 50% of fee being payable.
Failing to attend the scheduled appointment may result in 100% of the fee being payable.
F. Australian Association of Psychologists Inc
The current AAPi recommended fee is $300.00 per 50 mins.
